John Mavretich

John Mavretich serves as Executive Director of the Utility Solid Waste Activities Group (USWAG), bringing years of experience in regulatory compliance, environmental policy, and advising trade associations. Prior to joining USWAG, John was a partner at Venable LLP, where he counseled companies, nonprofits, and associations on complex environmental and chemical regulations, as well as insurance recovery and risk management strategies.  He has worked extensively with federal regulatory agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, and Consumer Product Safety Commission, helping organizations navigate compliance challenges and protect their interests.

John is known for delivering practical, results-oriented guidance and for building strong relationships with stakeholders across industries. John earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and his B.A. from Christendom College.
